Malayalam film actor Nivin Pauly arrested for sexual assault; denies allegations

Actor Nivin Pauly was arrested on Tuesday, September 3, on charges of rape after a 40-year-old woman accused him of sexually assaulting her in Dubai over a year ago. He denied the allegation and vowed to take all possible legal action to prove his innocence.

An officer of Oonnukal police station, where the FIR was registered under Section 376 of the IPC, said there are six accused in the case, including a woman.

The first defendant is a woman and Pauly is the sixth defendant, the official said.

According to the woman, the incident occurred in Dubai over a year ago, the official said, but he declined to provide further details.

A few hours after the FIR was registered, Pauly stated in a Facebook post that the allegations were “completely untrue”.

“I am determined to do everything I can to prove that these allegations are baseless and will take all necessary steps to bring those responsible to light. Thank you for your concern. The rest will be dealt with legally,” he said.

He then held a press conference where he reiterated that the allegations against him were false, adding: “This is a targeted accusation and I believe there is a conspiracy behind it.”
