Several BC Ferries trips between Swartz Bay and Tsawwssen cancelled

BC Ferries docked the Queen of New Westminster due to an engine problem, resulting in the cancellation of seven sailings between Swartz Bay and Tsawwassen on Tuesday.

In a service announcement, BC Ferries warned passengers that a “mechanical issue” was detected on the vessel during its 6 a.m. departure from Tsawwassen.

The Queen of New Westminster reached Victoria, where the passengers safely disembarked before the ship was returned to the mainland for repairs.

The following departures have now been cancelled:

  • 8:00 am departure from Swartz Bay
  • 10am departure from Tsawwassen
  • 12 noon departure from Swartz Bay
  • 2:00 pm Departure from Tsawwassen
  • 4:00 pm Departure from Swartz Bay
  • 6pm departure from Tsawwassen
  • 8pm departure from Swartz Bay

BC Ferries said other sailings on the same route, including Coastal Celebration, Spirit of British Columbia and Spirit of Vancouver Island, should continue as scheduled.

“If you have a booking for one of these cancelled trips, you will be notified by our customer service centre who will let you know if we can offer you an alternative trip later in the day or if your booking needs to be cancelled,” the company wrote in its service announcement.

Customers who cannot be rebooked onto another crossing will receive a refund.
