After splitting the 2023-24 season between the Phoenix Suns and Memphis Grizzlies, point guard Jordan Goodwin will reportedly have the chance to secure a spot on the roster of another Western Conference team.

According to NBA insider Chris Haynes, Goodwin agreed to a training camp with the Los Angeles Lakers on Tuesday.

Goodwin spent the first half of the season with the Suns, appearing in 40 games, before being traded to the Brooklyn Nets in a three-team trade. The Nets released him the day after signing him, and he signed a 10-day contract with the Grizzlies on February 13 before being signed to a two-way contract on February 24.

In 17 games in Memphis, Goodwin made 12 starts, averaging 10.0 points, 8.0 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 1.5 steals in 29.3 minutes of playing time, all career-best numbers. His best performance of the year came against the Lakers, when he had 23 points, 17 rebounds and four steals in a 123-120 loss.

Goodwin will join a Los Angeles team entering a new era under new head coach JJ Redick. The 40-year-old replaces Darvin Ham, who led the team to a 47-35 record last year before losing to the Denver Nuggets in the first round of the playoffs.

Goodwin is tenacious at the basket and brings a unique rebounding source for his 6-foot-4 size, so perhaps he can earn a spot in the Lakers' backcourt before the 2024-25 season.

Los Angeles is hoping for a title shot and could therefore go far with a player like Goodwin as reinforcement.
