16-year-old girl sexually abused by teacher in Nanded city, Maharashtra

A 16-year-old student was allegedly sexually harassed by a teacher at a private tutoring centre in the city of Nanded in the state of Maharashtra, it is reported PTI.

The incident reportedly sparked a protest by local residents who vandalised the educational institution, a police official said on Tuesday, September 3.

The victim allegedly told her parents about the abuse incident, which occurred on Monday, September 2.

Based on their complaint, an FIR was filed under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act against teacher Nagesh Jadhav (48), who was arrested today, Tuesday, September 3, said the Bhagyanagar police station officer.

As news of the alleged harassment spread, angry residents gathered at the training center and ransacked it on Monday, PTI Report further supplemented.

No complaint has yet been filed against the vandalism of the training center.

“If no complaint is filed by them (the owners of the training centre), we will investigate the case ourselves and register an offence,” the official said.

At the same time, the Bombay High Court has also raised serious concerns over the deficiencies in the implementation of the POCSO Act. This came as the Supreme Court was hearing a case relating to the sexual harassment of several children in the nursery section of a school near Mumbai, which had sparked massive protests last month.
