Air rifle fired, robberies, vehicle stolen

Total Emergency Calls – Belleville Police responded to 303 emergency calls between 5:00 a.m. on August 30, 2024 and 5:00 a.m. on September 3, 2024.

Weapon possession and threats

On 30.th On August 16th at 4:31 p.m., Belleville Police responded to a business on Bridge St. West after receiving reports of a man brandishing a fillet knife while making death threats toward a customer. The suspect fled the scene before police arrived. Police spoke with the victim and witnesses and were able to identify the suspect through their investigation. Later that evening at 10 p.m., police were able to locate the suspect and arrest him without incident. Police have charged a 17-year-old male with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and uttering threats. He was released on a bond. Police will not release the name of the accused in accordance with the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

On 30.th On August 13th at 1:50 p.m., Belleville Police responded to a report of a domestic dispute at a residence on the west side of the city. Police attended the scene and spoke with those involved. They learned that a woman had been physically assaulted by her male partner. Police then arrested a 31-year-old Belleville resident and charged him with assault. He was held for a bail hearing.

Stolen vehicle

On 30.th At 9:51 a.m. in August, a Sidney St. resident contacted Belleville Police to report that sometime during the night his white 2022 Toyota Highlander with Ontario license plate DCKP 586 was stolen from his residence. Police are still investigating the theft.

On 31.st On August 10 at 9:00 p.m., Belleville Police responded to Front Street for a report of a fight between a man and a woman. Initial witness statements indicated that the man was attempting to steal property from the woman. Officers arrived at the scene, spoke with those involved and determined that the woman had sustained minor injuries as a result of the attack. Michael Brown, 55, of Belleville, was arrested and charged with assault. Brown was released on probation and has a court date in October.

Theft and shoplifting

On 31.st At 4:30 p.m. in August, Belleville police were called to an east-side store for a report of two women stealing a customer's purse and then stealing a shopping cart full of items from the store before driving away in a vehicle. Officers who received the call arrived at the store and during their investigation were able to identify the two women. Police made contact with both women. Both women turned themselves in later that evening. As a result, 26-year-old Shelby Zielski-Thibault and 36-year-old Katelyn Cooke, both of Belleville, were charged with two counts of theft under $5,000. The pair were released on probation and have a court date in October.

On 31.st On August 10 at 9:17 a.m., Belleville Police responded to a residence in Thurlow where an intoxicated man was causing a disturbance. Officers arrived on scene and spoke with those involved. Police learned that the intoxicated man had assaulted the woman, resulting in minor injuries. As a result of the investigation, a 57-year-old Madoc resident was charged with assault and released on probation. His court date is in September. The defendant's name is not being released to protect the identity of the victim.

Two people shot with an air rifle

On 1.st On September 15 at 3:40 p.m., Belleville Police and Hastings-Quinte Paramedics responded to Bayshore Trail south of Dundas St. after receiving reports that two men had been shot with a pellet gun. Upon arrival, police learned that one man had been shot multiple times in the chest, but no skin was broken, and that the second man had been shot multiple times in the neck, chest and multiple times in the left arm. The second victim was transported to Kingston General Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Both victims continued to be uncooperative with police. The suspect is described as a stocky female with two dogs who is driving a newer SUV. Police are continuing to investigate. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact Cst. Traffic monitoring

On 2.and On September 1st at 9:09 a.m., an officer was monitoring the speed of traffic on Sidney St. N when he noticed a vehicle traveling at 80 mph in a 60 mph zone. As a result, a 29-year-old Belleville man was charged with reckless driving and received a summons to appear in traffic court in October. His license was automatically suspended for 30 days and the vehicle was impounded for 14 days.
