14-year-old boy suffers ‘life-changing’ injuries in stabbing

A 14-year-old boy suffered “potentially life-changing injuries” after a stabbing near a Merseyside park, police said.

It happened at around 10.15pm BST on Monday on Pennine Drive near Gaskell Park in St Helens.

The boy was stabbed several times by two men who then fled, Merseyside police said.

The victim was taken to hospital where he remains in serious but stable condition.

Police said the investigation was ongoing and officers were appealing for witnesses and anyone else with information to come forward.

Det Insp Jimmy Rotheram said: “Any knife crime is by its nature extremely serious but the age of last night’s victim and his injuries are particularly difficult to comprehend.

“We are absolutely determined to find the suspects and remove them from the community as quickly as possible.

“At this point we don’t know why the victim was targeted, so people need to start talking.

“If you have information about this incident, remaining silent should not be an option. So do the right thing and come forward.”
