After the killing of a 61-year-old, the police are investigating a 35-year-old. According to the Hildesheim public prosecutor's office, the man lived in a refugee shelter run by the victim.

According to the authorities, the 61-year-old man who was killed was the operator of a hotel in Sarstedt (Hildesheim district) that serves as accommodation for refugees. He was stabbed to death near the train station on Monday morning. “The 35-year-old suspect was arrested by special forces in the evening on the grounds of a large company site in Sarstedt,” wrote the police and public prosecutor's office in a joint press release on Tuesday. According to the information, the investigators tracked down the man through witness statements and the analysis of surveillance cameras. A knife was found near the crime scene. According to the public prosecutor's office, it has not yet been determined whether this was the murder weapon.

Police: Apparently no terrorist background

According to the police, the suspect's motive is still unclear. A spokesman said that there is “no indication of a terrorist background” so far. According to the public prosecutor's office, the 35-year-old got into an argument with his victim and then stabbed him.

“The case is tragic,” said Birgit Wilken, spokeswoman for the Hildesheim district, when asked by NDR in Lower Saxony. So far, she has no information on whether the incident will affect the operation of the refugee accommodation in Sarstedt. However, Wilken said they are in close contact with the local authorities.
