FDP: Migration meeting must not become a show event

BERLIN (dpa-AFX) – Before the migration consultations between the traffic light coalition, the CDU/CSU opposition and the states, the FDP is calling for serious efforts to solve the immigration problem. “Today's meeting must not be a show event,” said FDP General Secretary Bijan Djir-Sarai to the German Press Agency in Berlin. He stressed: “We need a fundamental reorganization of migration policy.”

This afternoon, representatives of the federal government, trade unions and states will meet at the Federal Ministry of the Interior to discuss how illegal migration to Germany can be curbed. The recent state elections in Saxony and Thuringia showed that immigration is one of the most pressing political problems for many people in Germany.
