AAP's Sanjay Singh announces final decision on alliance with Congress after Kejriwal consultation

New Delhi [India]September 3 (ANI): Aam Aadmi Party MP Sanjay Singh welcomed the reported statement by opposition leader and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi on an alliance for the Haryana elections and said that the party's Haryana chief will take a final decision on it after informing AAP national coordinator Arvind Kejriwal.

“We welcome this. Our priority is to defeat the BJP… Our Haryana in-charges Sandeep Pathak and Sushil Gupta will discuss it and take a final decision and inform Arvind Kejriwal and a decision will be taken accordingly…” Sanjay Singh said.

According to sources, Rahul sought the opinion of Haryana Congress party leaders on a possible alliance with AAP for the upcoming Haryana assembly elections during the party's Central Election Committee (CEC) meeting held in the capital on Monday.

According to sources, during the CEC meeting, Rahul Gandhi enquired about the possibilities of contesting the elections as INDIA Alliance and said the party should strive to ensure that the alliance votes are undivided.

However, Arvind Kejriwal had earlier declared that his party would contest all 90 seats in the Haryana Legislative Assembly elections on its own.

According to sources, former Haryana chief minister and Congress MP Bhupinder Singh Hooda, reacting to Rahul Gandhi's statement, said that only three to four seats could be given to AAP, which is demanding more, and therefore it would be difficult to form an alliance.

The sources also said that Hooda will be fielded as candidate from Garhi Sampla Kiloi constituency while State President Udaybhan will be fielded from Hodal constituency.

The party did not discuss the possible candidacies of Vinesh Phogat and Rajya Sabha MPs Kumari Selja and Randeep Surjewala during the meeting.

The Congress discussed the nominations for all 90 seats in the state in the CEC meeting and finalised the names for 49 seats, but the names for the remaining 41 seats are yet to be finalised. Haryana AICC president Deepak Babaria said that the Congress party would release the list of candidates soon.

“Discussion has been taken up on 49 seats and 34 of them have been announced. 15 seats have been sent for verification. Of the 34 seats released, 22 are MLA seats. The pending names will be released in the next two to three days. We will also clear Vinesh Phogat. The list will also be released within two days.” (ANI)
