Harrods trains employees to combat sexual harassment of customers

Harrods has trained its staff to intervene when shoppers or customers are sexually harassed, amid a worrying epidemic of crime in stores

In light of a worrying epidemic of crime in stores, Harrods has trained its staff to intervene when shoppers or customers are sexually harassed.

The London department store said it introduced a policy last year requiring mandatory training for all employees on the issue.

Harrods now has over 50 staff working as sexual harassment support officers across its stores, including airport branches and the Knightsbridge store.

In addition, all employees must complete an online course on how to recognize sexual harassment and take appropriate action if they witness harassment or inappropriate behavior.

Amid record numbers of shoplifting incidents, retailers have called on the Labour Party to take action to ensure police take retail crime more seriously.

According to the financial statements, Harrods' sales rose 8 percent to a record £898.4 million in the year to February 3, 2024.

However, profits fell 65 percent from £470.8 million to £162.2 million, after one-off costs to settle future pension obligations in a deal with Scottish Widows.
