When shopping, many customers pay attention to discount signs. But upon closer inspection, some bargains turn out to be deceptive.

Dortmund – When strolling through a supermarket or discount store, many different products and offers tempt you. However, customers should always remain vigilant: There is currently a fruit recall going around, and even a federal agency is warning against eating it. And there are also a few traps and deceptions lurking in the store itself.

Lidl customers denounce 0-euro savings – “Are you serious?”

As early as July 2023, an unusual “special offer” at Lidl caused a stir on social media. A customer discovered an XXL Actimel pack that was being offered for a whopping 3.88 euros instead of 3.89 euros – a saving of a full 1 cent.

At the time, she commented sarcastically: “Are you serious, Lidl?” I'll take it straight away.” The post has since been deleted from the X platform, but an even more blatant case is now making the rounds (more news about supermarkets and discounters at RUHR24).

Lidl offer advertises with “Cheaper!”: Customers don’t save a single cent

Also on a user's platform, a user shared the following photo of a price tag at Lidl:

The red price tag advertises the “Danone Alpro yoghurt alternative” with the tempting note “Cheaper!” for 1.99 euros. The funny thing is that directly above it is the recommended retail price for comparison – also 1.99 euros. The user commented dryly: “Hello Lidl, you should advertise this offer more, I bought 2 pallets straight away.”

Offers in the supermarket: Customers should look closely at discount signs

Lidl itself has not yet responded to the post. The company also did not respond to RUHR24's request (26 August) as to whether this could be a mistake at the time of publication. On a more positive note, Lidl will soon be offering two new product ranges for customers.

Either way, these strange cases show that it's worth taking a closer look. Even if mini-discounts cause amusement on social media, they are misleading and anything but customer-friendly.
