Dolphins fans still angry because team released promising young running back

The Miami Dolphins released running back Chris Brooks when they trimmed their roster to 53 players, angering some fans. The fact that they haven't re-signed him yet has others furious. Brooks remains a free agent.

There were reports that Brooks suffered a shoulder injury and a concussion that sidelined him for Miami's preseason game against Atlanta. If that's true, then the reason Miami didn't bring him back is understandable. Since his release, however, the Dolphins have not only retained Jeff Wilson, but have also signed other players to the practice squad as running backs.

Miami signed Anthony McFarland Jr. to the practice squad after the team released him, but he was released and another running back, Deneric Prince, was added this weekend. Prince, a free agent signed by the Chiefs in 2023, has played in two games in his career.

The question is, what's going on with Brooks? Have the Dolphins decided his injury problems are too much for them to handle? That doesn't seem to bother Chris Grier. When Brooks is healthy, he runs well and is one of the more physical runners on the team. He gives the Dolphins that element they don't yet have.

His energy-sapping running style is one of the reasons he's injured, but he took a huge hit against the Falcons and now his time in Miami seems to be truly over. Many, including myself, believed he would be signed to the practice squad, but that didn't happen. There has to be something else about his injury that we don't know about, because it's hard to believe another team hasn't signed him to their roster.

To say the least, the recent roster cuts this season have resulted in a lot of puzzling decisions, and Brooks is just one of them.
