Alvin Kamara explains why he put his house up for sale | Saints

Alvin Kamara answered one question with another on Monday when asked if he had put his Belle Chase home up for sale.

“Are you looking for a house?” said the New Orleans Saints running back with a smile.

Yes, Kamara recently put his 70,000-square-foot home up for sale. And yes, the 29-year-old essentially made that decision in a contract year when he and the team were unable to sign a new deal.

But are these things related? Well, let Kamara explain.

“Yes, I'm selling my house,” Kamara said. “I'd like to call myself a serial entrepreneur. I'm involved in a lot of things, the real estate market is one of them. Then I talked to (car dealer) Matt Bowers and he told me I could live with him. So I think it was a good financial decision to put my house on the market.”

Kamara said he uses his brother as a real estate agent. The 5-bedroom, 5 ½-bathroom home, built in 2022, is for sale for $2.75 million.

“I wouldn't say I had … an exact plan, but I had plans,” Kamara said. “I'm pretty single-minded in my real estate dealings. I have other properties in town, too, so if I sell (the house) today, I'll have a place to be, so I'm in a good position.”

In June, Kamara left the final day of the team's mandatory minicamp because he was unhappy with his contract situation. The running back is looking for a new deal because the Saints are unlikely to pay his $22.4 million base salary (with a $29 million cap hit) in 2025. New Orleans can save nearly $19 million next year if it releases Kamara before June 1.

Despite this, Kamara participated in the entire training camp. He missed more than a week due to back problems, but returned to practice on August 20 after the Saints returned from California.

In the Saints locker room on Monday, Kamara said he had reached a point where he did not want to talk about his contract until the end of the season.

“It's too late for contract talks,” Kamara said. “Like I told you all when I arrived (at training camp): If it works out, cool. If it doesn't, cool.”

The Saints open their season on Sunday, September 8, against the Carolina Panthers.
