Shots fired at Punjabi music star's home in Colwood

It is believed that no one was injured.

Shots were fired at the home of Victoria-based singer, music producer and rising Punjabi music star AP Dhillon early Monday morning.

On Monday afternoon, the house on Ravenwood Road in Colwood became the crime scene. Several bullet holes were marked in the driveway and a burned-out truck was parked.

However, the house was not cordoned off and there was no police presence. According to an RCMP E Division spokesperson, the RCMP will not comment on the case until Tuesday.

No one was reportedly injured. According to a source, Dhillon was not at home at the time of the shooting.

A neighbor said security cameras captured a black SUV on the cul-de-sac shortly after 1 a.m. Monday and that shots were fired at 1:08 a.m. Police arrived five minutes later and the street was closed for several hours.

A video released by Indian media on Monday shows a person firing 14 shots at the front windows and garage of a house while a black SUV and a smaller vehicle burn.

According to BC Assessment, the house belongs to Amritpal Singh Dhillon, who bought it in June 2022 for $1.475 million.

Last month, Dhillon, 31, signed a deal with Universal Music Canada and Republic Records, the music producer of Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande and John Mellencamp.

Monte Lipman, founder of Republic Records, said at the time that Dhillon was “a bright visionary with global reach who has already sparked a cultural revolution.”

Dhillon moved to Canada from India in 2015 and became the first Punjabi-speaking artist to perform at a Canadian Juno Awards event in 2023.

According to the Times of Indiaan India-based gang, has claimed responsibility for the shooting, saying on social media that the gang was upset that Dhillon collaborated on a music video with Bollywood actor Salman Khan. They said the gang leader has a long-standing feud with Khan. The Vancouver Sun could not independently confirm the claim.

In April this year, shots were fired at Khan's house in Mumbai.

A similar incident occurred on November 24, 2023, at a property in West Vancouver believed to be the home of Bollywood singer and actor Gippy Grewal.
