NHL legend Jaromir Jagr pays touching tribute to Johnny Gaudreau after his fatal bicycle accident

One of the greatest hockey players of all time, Jaromir Jagr, paid his last respects to his former teammate Johnny Gaudreau less than a week after his death in a tragic bicycle accident.

Jagr was only Gaudreau's teammate in 22 games with the Calgary Flames during the 2017 NHL season.

Jagr scored 766 NHL goals, his last for the Flames and was assisted by Gaudreau.

It came down to a 2-on-1, with a clear pass from Gaudreau bringing Jagr close to the goal, where he shot the puck into the roof of the net, beating former Detroit Red Wings goalie Petr Mrazek on the blocker side.

Jagr recalled his last NHL goal on Instagram on Monday.

“I honestly never thought I would write a post like that,” Jagr began. “Yes, that was my last NHL goal. Yes, that was a pretty nice goal. Yes, it was, above all, a beautiful pass.”

“Unfortunately, life can be incredibly cruel sometimes. Thank you, Johnny Gaudreau, for being there and giving all the guys hope with your incredible performances that even though they are not the biggest and toughest, they can be just as successful at the NHL world class as you,” Jagr added.

“My condolences to the whole family. Rest in peace, you and your brother,” concluded Jagr.

Gaudreau, 31, and his younger brother Matthew, 29, were killed in a bicycle accident in New Jersey on Thursday evening after they were hit by a suspected drunk driver.

The couple died on the eve of their sister Katie's wedding, at which they were both due to be best men on Friday. The wedding was called off following the tragedy.

Johnny, an NHL veteran entering his third season with the Columbus Blue Jackets, and Matthew, a professional hockey player in the ECHL, were struck and killed by another vehicle driven by 43-year-old Sean M. Higgins of Woodstown, New Jersey, who was believed to be under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash.

At 52, Jagr is still an active hockey player and plays in his native Czech Republic.
