Man charged with attempted murder after stabbing and assault in Oshawa

A 22-year-old man is charged with attempted murder following two stabbings and an assault in Oshawa.

The allegations are based on two incidents that occurred approximately 12 hours apart.

Durham Region Police said they were first called to John Street West and Nassau Street at approximately 2:05 a.m. on August 29 for a report of an armed person in the area.

A man is said to have attacked a woman and then stabbed another man. He then fled the area.

The female victim suffered minor injuries. The male victim was found with serious stab wounds and was taken to a trauma centre in Toronto in life-threatening condition.

Police searched the area but were initially unable to locate the suspect.

Later that day, police were again called to the same area following a report of an armed person at around 2:15 p.m.

The same suspect is said to have stabbed another man and fled the area again.

The victim was found with severe stab wounds and taken to a trauma centre in Toronto in serious but non-life-threatening condition.

Police searched the area and were able to locate the suspect, who was taken into custody without incident.

Lucais Joseph Dayton, of no fixed address, is charged with assault, two counts of attempted murder and aggravated assault, four counts of assault with a weapon, two counts of concealed possession of a weapon, four counts of possession of a weapon to commit a crime and eleven counts of violating probation.

He was detained for a bail hearing.

Police are asking anyone with information or cell phones, dashboard cameras or surveillance videos to contact them.
