Khammam: Several residents affected by the rains in Khammam complained that Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy's visit to the rain-affected areas was more like an election campaign.

The chief minister, who toured the area in an open vehicle, waved to locals on the streets. He visited only a few houses in Karunagiri and Rajiv Gruha Kalpa in the city. Locals said they were not even allowed to voice their grievances to the chief minister.

In fact, some of the locals who staged protests in Khammam rural mandal and Rajiv Gruha Kalpa areas against the failure of the state government to provide relief measures were arrested by the police.

On Sunday too, people expressed their anger at the actions of the state apparatus that helped them fight the unprecedented floods in Khammam.

Several residents of the city had complained that the three district ministers – Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy and Tummala Nageswara Rao – were not present to oversee the relief efforts and had stayed away and contacted the officials only by phone.

Many residents of the Kalvoddu region also protested against the negligent attitude of ministers and officials in implementing the relief measures.
