Pixel Watch 3: No update progress – Google will provide the new smartwatches with updates for three years

Google will soon PixelWatch 3 onto the market, which has already been presented in detail – but one not entirely unimportant detail was initially left out. Now it has been officially announced how long the new smartwatch will be provided with software updates and in this area there will certainly be some disappointment for some.

The Pixel Watch has arrived in its third generation and has fixed some of the weaknesses of its two predecessors, but there is still one area where no changes have been made – namely the duration of the guaranteed Wear OS updates. As the company has now revealed in the official support document, the Pixel Watch 3 will also be available with three years of software updates This means that the third generation will have to October 2027 Updates will be received.

While Google has made a distinction between operating system and security updates for the Pixel smartphones for a few years (and is currently causing confusion), the smartwatch only has software updates. It is therefore not said that there are the Australian Wear OS updates, but simply functional and security updates. The support document states that “software updates include security updates for the Google Pixel Watch as well as feature drops and other software updates.” The Wear OS updates are therefore just the “other software updates”.

It is not clear why Google does not also offer longer updates for its smartwatch. It should be at least five years, like its competitors from Cupertino, given the seven years of smartphone updates.
