Tim Walz's brother donated to Trump in 2016. Now he is “100% against” his sibling's political ideology

Jeff Walz donated to Donald Trump’s campaign back in 2016.

Now, eight years later, the 67-year-old's brother, Tim Walz, is running against the former president after joining Vice President Kamala Harris on the Democratic Party's 2024 ticket.

And Jeff Walz seems to be anything but happy with his brother's political ambitions.

In Facebook posts, first seen and published by The New York PostJeff Walz said he was “100 percent against” his sibling's political ideology and even told other social media users that he was “not the type of person you want to let make decisions about your future.”

“I am 100 percent against his entire ideology,” he wrote in a post about the Minnesota governor on Friday evening.

Jeff Walz even went so far as to suggest that he would be willing to publicly support Trump in the presidential election campaign.

When a friend's Facebook account urged him to “get on stage with President Trump and support him,” Jeff responded, “I've thought long and hard about doing something like this! I'm torn between this and keeping my family out of it.”

He added: “The stories I could tell. Not the kind of character you want to make decisions about your own future.”

The Independent has reached out to the Harris-Walz campaign team for comment.

The 60-year-old governor of Minnesota and his older brother, 67, are estranged and have not spoken to each other in eight years, according to the Post.

They also have a sister, Sandy Dietrich, 63, and a late brother, Craig Walz, who died at age 44 when he was struck by a falling tree in a tragic accident in 2016.

The reason for the rift between the two surviving brothers is unclear, but it is obvious that they had different political views.

Tim Walz has been active in the Democratic Party for at least two decades, first volunteering on John Kerry's presidential campaign in 2004 before serving 12 years in Congress, becoming governor of Minnesota in 2018 and finally being named the Democratic Party's vice presidential nominee last month.

Jeff Walz, on the other hand, is a registered Republican who lives in the Florida Panhandle and, according to Federal Election Commission records, donated $20 to Trump's 2016 presidential campaign.

On March 30, 2023—the day Trump was first criminally charged in his hush money case in New York—Jeff Walz seemed to parrot the former president's rhetoric in a not-so-cryptic Facebook post.

“We have just become a third world banana republic,” he wrote in the post, which was first resurfaced by right-wing activist Laura Loomer.

However, there are some similarities.

Like his brother, Jeff Walz worked in a school and was an assistant principal at a middle school in Citrus County, Florida in the early 2000s.

Both brothers have also had trouble with the law. While Tim Walz pleaded guilty to reckless driving after being arrested for drunk driving in 2005, his older brother pleaded guilty to shoplifting for allegedly stealing from a Walmart store in 2001.The Tampa Bay Times reported.

While the vice presidential candidate may not have the support of his older brother, the rest of his family have rallied behind him since he was selected as the running mate alongside Harris.

Tim's wife Gwen has become a regular guest on the campaign trail, and their children Hope and Gus accompanied their father to the Democratic National Convention.

In a heartwarming moment during his father’s keynote speech, an emotional Gus jumped to his feet and proudly exclaimed, “That’s my dad!”
