Pixel Watch 3 only receives three years of OS updates

In mid-August, Google introduced the latest generation of its smartwatch, the Pixel Watch 3, alongside the Pixel 9 smartphones (“Swiss IT Magazine” reported). Now a piquant detail has been revealed: While the smartphone line will receive Android updates for seven years, the Pixel Watch 3 will only receive updates for Wear OS three years after its launch – or, as Google puts it: “for at least three years.” From that point on, the device was available for the first time in the Google Store in the USA.

In addition to the Wear OS operating system, the three years of updates also include security updates, feature drops and other updates, as Google announced in a short message. Specifically, the announcement means that the Pixel Watch 3 can expect updates until at least October 2027, the Pixel Watch 2 until October 2026 and the Pixel Watch until October 2025. From October 2025 onwards, the smartphones in the Pixel 9 series will all be able to enjoy updates until August 2031. (ubi)
