Child killed, elderly woman injured in separate wolf attacks in Bahraich – ThePrint – PTIFeed

Bahraich (UP), Sept 2 (PTI) – A 2.5-year-old girl was killed and a 70-year-old woman injured in two separate incidents of wolf attacks in Mahsi district, officials said on Monday.

The first incident occurred on Sunday evening in Garethi Gurudutt Singh village in Hardi district when Anjali was sleeping outside the house with her mother and was snatched by a wolf, it is said.

The child's mutilated body was found one kilometer from the village, officials said. The wolf had bitten off both of her hands.

District Judge Monika Rani said this was the eighth death due to wolf attacks since July 17. Eight people, including seven children, died in these attacks and about 30 were injured.

In another incident, Kamala Devi of Mauja Kotiya village in Barabigha area was injured when a wolf entered her house and attacked her on Monday morning, they added.

She was taken to a district hospital with injuries to her neck, mouth and ears and is in stable condition, officials said.

The administration is working to catch the attacking wolves. Four animals have already been caught, she said. The problem, however, is that there are more than 100 customs villages involved and the wolves will attack new villages within four to five days.

People are being made aware that they should sleep with doors closed or on roofs and remain alert, Rani said.

“So far, two wolf attacks have been reported, but the forestry department is collecting information on the number. The exact number can only be announced after the investigation is completed,” she added.

Meanwhile, Superintendent of Police Vrinda Shukla and DM Rani took stock of the situation and visited the family members of the victims. They ensured proper treatment for the injured woman. PTI COR ABN ABN OZ OZ
