(MENAFN- Jordan Times) BERLIN – A woman stabbed and injured five people on a bus in western Germany on Friday, police said, a week after the deadly knife attack that rocked the country.

The 32-year-old suspect was arrested after the incident in the city of Siegen without any indication of a terrorist attack, local police said in a statement.

Three of the five victims are in critical condition, one is seriously injured and the fifth is only slightly injured.

A week ago, Germany was shaken by a knife attack in which three people were killed and eight injured in the Westphalian city of Solingen.

The identity of the suspected attacker, a 26-year-old Syrian who was previously due to be deported to Bulgaria, sparked a debate about German immigration and asylum policy.

The killings prompted Chancellor Olaf Scholz's government to announce new restrictions on carrying knives at public gatherings and on long-distance transport, as well as cuts to social benefits for some illegal immigrants.

On Tuesday, police in the western town of Moers near Solingen shot dead a man who was suspected of attacking passers-by with knives.
