The attackers, led by a man named Vijay, first attacked the food stall's staff late Saturday night before returning in the early hours and firing at the shop and the owner's house. The victim and his wife then rushed to seek shelter. Both escaped unharmed, police said.

According to police, the attackers got into an altercation with the workers after they refused to pay the food bill.

Robin, 36, the complainant, told police that in the early hours of Sunday morning, as he was returning home from the restaurant, two vehicles suddenly screeched to a halt in front of his house. Six to seven men, one of whom Robin identified as Vijay, got out of the vehicles, opened fire and abused the men.

He reacted quickly and ran into his house for cover, Robin said. However, the attackers continued their attack, firing four shots at his door before fleeing in their vehicles.

According to Robin's statement, Vijay and his accomplices had also attacked him earlier in his food stall. Robin's manager Amin informed him that the same group had visited the food stall earlier in the night and fired shots.

Facebook post takes responsibility

On Sunday, a Facebook account called “CP Vijay Group” claimed responsibility for the attack on Robin. The post warned, “Anyone contesting against Neetu in the upcoming elections should be careful.” According to police, Neetu is a resident of Sector 25 and a Congress worker.

The police have registered a case against Vijay and his unidentified accomplices under sections 125, 109, 332 (A), 351 (2) and 3 (5) of the BNS and sections 25, 27, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act. A manhunt has been launched against Vijay and his unidentified accomplices.

Investigators said Vijay was previously arrested in 15 cases of robbery, theft and attempt to murder. He had opened fire on a man in Sector 25 in 2020 and fled to Patiala, where he hid with the help of a member of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang.
