Katja Wolf, the SPD's top candidate for the German Bundestag, failed to win the direct election

– The Socialist Party's main candidate, Katja Wolf, was stripped of her directly elected position.

In the Wartburgkreis II constituency in Thuringia, the state chairwoman and top candidate of the Left Party, Katja Wolf, was unfortunately unable to win a direct mandate. She received 28.2% of the votes and was well behind Ulrike Jary of the CDU, who received 42.4% of the votes.

In view of these results, it is likely that Wolf will enter the state parliament via the state list, after having already served as a member of the Left Party in parliament from 1999 to 2012.

After retiring as mayor of Eisenach in 2012, Wolf successfully defended her position in the 2018 elections. However, she decided not to run again in the 2022 local elections and instead joined the Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance, where she was subsequently elected state chairwoman and top candidate.

Although she was unable to win a direct mandate in the state parliament, Katja Wolf's strong support within the Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance secured her admission to the Thuringian state parliament via the state list. Regardless of the results of the state election, Wolf's political career in Thuringia will continue as state chairwoman of the Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance.
