Attack on Niklas-Wilson Sommer: Nuremberg player posts photo

Niklas-Wilson Sommer was attacked by unknown assailants on Sunday night. He has now posted a photo.

During the night from Saturday to Sunday, Niklas-Wilson Sommer from the regional league team of 1. FC Nuremberg was attacked by unknown assailants. The marks are still clearly visible on his face.

On Sunday evening, Sommer posted a photo on Instagram showing the clear swelling above his right eye. He wrote, “I'm fine” and “Thanks for all the messages.”

According to his club, Sommer was ambushed in front of his front door early on Saturday evening and “a few hours later” there was a “physical attack”. The police investigation into the incident began that night.

The 26-year-old, who has a million followers on Instagram, had appeared on social media three days earlier wearing an FC Bayern jersey – “the act is apparently a reaction to that,” wrote the FCN. The photo was deleted shortly after publication, “the player also publicly apologized.”

With the physical attack, the as yet unknown persons had “crossed all boundaries,” the FCN said angrily. “The club will never accept it if players are attacked. That is exactly what happened last night through the actions of the players.

At Nuremberg's home game on Saturday against 1. FC Magdeburg (0:4), several banners were seen in the fan curve directed against Sommer. “Club pride instead of hipster posing. Niklas Wilson, you're shit, like FCB,” read one poster, “Wilson, piss off, you Bayern pig,” read another. Influencer Sommer had posted several photos of himself wearing other clubs' jerseys in the past.
