Woman charged with murder after six-year-old boy found dead at home

A woman has been charged with murder after a six-year-old boy died.

Karolina Zurawska, 41, of Gendros, Swansea, will appear at the city's Magistrates' Court on Monday in connection with the death of Alexander Zurawski, who was found dead at a property in Cwm Du Close, Gendros, on Thursday.

Zurawska was also charged with attempted murder in connection with an incident that occurred earlier that day against a 67-year-old man.

South Wales Police said investigators are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.

Chief Superintendent Chris Truscott, Divisional Commander for Swansea and Neath Port Talbot, said: “This is a disturbing incident which has come as a huge shock to local communities.

“The local community has been extremely supportive of our investigations and we would like to thank them all for their patience during these traumatic days.

“In the coming days, the police will remain present on site to offer advice and reassurance.

“Our thoughts are with Alexander’s family and friends during this difficult time.”

In a police statement, Alexander's family described him as a “very friendly child.”

“He loved playing with his little sister and his dog Daisy,” they said.

“Alexander was always well-behaved and never naughty. He was very clever and very mature for his age. He had a lot of knowledge.

“Alexander was always helpful. Always ready to help with cooking and cleaning.

“Alexander spoke both English and Polish and often corrected his parents with their English when they got words wrong.

“He was incredible.”

The family also thanked the emergency services who were involved in the incident on Thursday.

Bethan Peterson, headteacher of Whitestone Primary School, said: “We are devastated to learn of Alexander’s tragic death.

“Alexander was a delightful, determined little boy whose tenacity and positive attitude ensured success in everything he undertook.

“He was an extremely popular and well-liked boy with his classmates, staff and everyone who knew him. We will miss him very much.”

“Appropriate support will be provided to the children, staff and all those affected in our school community.

“We ask that you respect the privacy of our school community during this difficult time.”
