Marisa Tomei raves about her “Spider-Man” co-stars Tom Holland and Zendaya

The romance between Tom Holland and Zendaya has grown in the years since their first role together in Spider Man films together, and her co-star Marisa Tomei was there for the whole thing.

During her performance at the Fan Expo 2024 in Toronto on Sunday, August 25, Tomei – who has performed in the last three Spider Man Films – told an audience that one of her favorite parts of working on the trilogy was “just watching Tom and Zendaya grow up and watching them fall in love… and seeing their phenomenal talent.”

“I was just blown away from the first moment … just seeing how she [those] Shoes – I mean, I'm overwhelmed,” the Oscar winner, 59, added of Holland, 28, and Zendaya, 27. “Some people are just meant to do this, and they are meant to do this.”

Holland was first introduced to a global audience as Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2016. Captain America: Civil War and has since appeared in three solo films and the last two avenger Movies. Zendaya, who plays Michelle “MJ” Jones in the series, continues to have hits outside of Spider Man Series with its science fiction epic from 2024, Dune – Part Twoand the tennis drama challenger.

“They have tremendous, tremendous star power, tremendous power, and at the same time manage to be real people, and they're just multi-talented,” Tomei said of the couple, who have been together since 2021. “They can do anything! They sing, they dance, they act, they do stunts, they design fashion. I mean, what don't they do? They're incredible, incredible people.”

Tomei even said she recently saw Holland return to the stage in the West End production of Romeo and Julietwhich ran from May 13 to August 3. “He can do anything,” she added.

Audiences have not seen Holland and Zendaya together on screen since 2021 Spider-Man: No Way Homein which Tomei's Aunt May dies and Peter Parker sacrifices his friends and family's memories of him to protect his work as Spider-Man and end the film's conflict.

The future of the franchise has been uncertain since then, although Holland said in April that a fourth film was still in development.

“This is the first time in this process that I've been part of the creative work so early. It's just a process of watching and learning. It's just a really fun phase for me,” he said Deadline back then. “Like I said, everyone wants it to happen. But we want to make sure we don't overdo the same things.”

Behind the scenes, a source told PEOPLE that same month that “there had been talks of marriage” between Holland and Zendaya.
