18-year-old stabbed to death during robbery in Uttam Nagar

An 18-year-old man was stabbed to death during a robbery in Dwarka's Uttam Nagar area.

According to police on Sunday, the victim is Monu, a native of Meerut in Uttar Pradesh, who had come to Delhi to work during the Janmashtami Mela. He was working as a labourer in a balloon shop near Metro pillar no. 681, Uttam Nagar, in Bindapur police station area.

DCP Dwarka Ankit Singh said that a call was received at Uttam Nagar police station at 11.15 pm on Saturday about a scuffle and stabbing of a man. At the time of the alleged incident, Monu and his friend Monu Kumar were on their way to dinner when they were stopped by four to five men near a metro pillar.

“It also emerged that the injured man was eating something along with Monu and when they approached pillar no. 656, Uttam Nagar, Delhi, four to five boys came and demanded money, which they refused. Suddenly, one boy came and stabbed Monu's upper back with a knife,” Singh added.

Monu was first taken to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital and then to Safdarjung Hospital. He died during treatment.

“A case of robbery under sections 311 (robbery or robbery with attempt to cause death or grievous bodily harm) and 3(5) (When an offence is committed by several persons in furtherance of the common intention of all, each of such persons shall be liable for that act in the same manner as if it had been committed by him alone) of the BNS has been registered and investigated. It was also found that the injured person was declared dead, accordingly the section of murder has been added. CCTVs of the area are being examined and efforts are on to trace the suspect,” the DCP said.
