Elderly driver rescued from burning car after collision in Manchester

Manchester, CT (WFSB) Authorities are investigating a serious car accident that occurred Saturday evening.

At around 6:48 p.m., Manchester Police and Fire Departments were called to an accident on South Adams Street near Assumption Church.

Initial reports indicate that a vehicle traveling east on West Center Street left the road, entered the church lawn and collided with a tree.

The impact caused the car to catch fire.

The driver, an 86-year-old man from Manchester, was rescued from his vehicle and taken to a local trauma center.

His injuries are said to be life-threatening.

Manchester Police are currently investigating the circumstances of the collision.
