Anika Rastogi, 19, daughter of a senior police officer found dead at Ram Manohar Lohia National Law University in Lucknow

Anika was found lying on the floor of her room and taken to hospital

Lucknow:

A 19-year-old student was found dead in her room at a college hostel in the Indian state of Lucknow on Saturday night, police said. The victim, identified as Anika Rastogi, was a student at the Ram Manohar Lohia National Law University. Anika was found lying on the floor of her room and was rushed to hospital in an unconscious state, where doctors declared her dead.

Ms. Rastogi is a third-year LLB student and is the daughter of Sanjay Rastogi, a 1998-batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer from the Maharastra cadre. Sanjay Rastogi is currently the Inspector General, National Investigation Agency (NIA), Delhi.

Although the cause of Anika's death is still unclear, it is suspected that she suffered a heart attack. The exact cause of death will be revealed after the autopsy, police said. The body has been sent for autopsy to determine the cause of death.

Police said Anika's clothes were intact and showed no visible injuries. Police said the room at the hostel was locked from the inside and nothing suspicious was found inside.

According to the police, further measures will be taken based on the autopsy report. Family members of the victim have not yet filed a report with the police.
