Aston Villa injury news: Unai Emery gives update on attacking duo

Aston Villa boss Unai Emery gives a mixed update on the injuries to two players who could play key roles this season.

Aston Villa Head Coach Unai Emery delivered a mixed injury update on Leon Bailey And Jaden Philogene.

The West Midlands team can be pleased with their start to the new Premier League season, having collected six points from their first three games.

On Saturday afternoon, Villa beat Leicester City 2-1 at the King Power Stadium, securing their second away win in a row.

As a result, Emery's team goes into the international break in the top half of the table, but things have not been going perfectly for the Spaniard so far.

During the closure of the transfer window, Lutsharel Geertruida rejected Villa's offer to sign for RB Leipzig, leaving Emery without experienced options at right-back and in midfield in his defensive line.

At the same time as Matty Cash Bailey and Philogene also had to take a break due to a thigh injury and have been struggling with problems in recent days.

What did Emery say to Bailey, Philogene?

The most noticeable problem concerns Bailey, who had to leave the field early in the game against the Foxes due to a thigh injury.

Meanwhile, new signing Philogene was unavailable to take his place in the squad due to an injury he sustained during training earlier this week.

In an interview with the newspaper “The Birmingham MailEmery said: “He [Philogene] had a kick on Wednesday and didn't train, but we gradually thought he could play today. In the end he told us he couldn't play with the same pain.”

He added of Bailey: “It's a torn hamstring. I don't know exactly how bad his injury is. He left the field with an injury.”

“When we come back, Jaden will hopefully be able to play again, Leon may not.”

What’s next for Villa?

Emery will be keen to welcome Bailey back into the team as soon as possible given the number of games Villa played following the international break.

After hosting Everton in the Premier League on September 14, they begin their Champions League schedule with a trip to Switzerland to face Young Boys three days later.

Before the end of September, matches with Wolverhampton Wanderers, Wycombe Wanderers and Ipswich Town are also planned.
