KIEV, Ukraine (AP) — A Russian missile struck Kryvyi Rih on Wednesday, local authorities said. The hometown of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy was marking an official day of mourning for the attack the previous day that killed four civilians in a hotel.

The latest attack on the city hit civilian infrastructure and injured four people, local administration head Oleksandr Vilkul said on social media.

The previous attack on Tuesday, which left four people dead and five others injured in Kryvyi Rih, was part of a barrage of dozens of missiles and drones that Russia launched over Ukraine for the second day in a row.

“When there is mourning in Kryvyi Rih, the enemy will attack again. And again he will target civilians,” regional head Serhii Lysak said on Wednesday.

Russia stepped up its bombing of Ukraine on Monday, firing over 100 missiles and a similar number of drones in the largest attack in weeks.

The intensified bombing campaign coincided with a potentially decisive phase of the war that Russia began on February 24, 2022.

Russian troops are advancing deeper into the partially occupied eastern region of Donetsk, the complete capture of which is one of the Kremlin's main goals. The Russian army is advancing on Pokrovsk, a key logistics hub for Ukrainian defense in the region.

At the same time, Ukraine has deployed its troops to Russia's Kursk region in recent weeks. It was the largest invasion of Russian soil since World War II. The move is partly an attempt to force Russia to withdraw its troops from the front in Donetsk.

Rescue workers found another body under the rubble in the hotel in Kryvyi Rih on Wednesday. The rescue operation was then terminated.

Meanwhile, Ukraine claimed that its air defenses had destroyed a Russian Su-25 fighter jet in the Donetsk region.

Ukraine also continued its long-range drone attacks on Russia's rear logistics areas and set fire to a fuel depot.
