The most important stories of the week from the Cape Cod Times

Labor Day is here, and that means there are plenty of activities and celebrations on Cape Cod to close out the summer season. But before you make your final trip to the beach, be sure to catch up on all the news the Cape Cod Times has to offer.

The last week of August brought unexpected weather, an update on the ongoing case involving the manager and principal owner of The Music Room, and plenty of previews of the upcoming high school football season on the Cape Cod Times sports page.

Future of Barnstable High School's deputy principal decided after her leave of absence

Barnstable High School assistant principal Hope Taylor has been fired for her role in an April 6 school trip to Boston that left two students stranded.

Sara Ahern, superintendent of Barnstable Public Schools, placed Taylor and the two other chaperones on leave from school on April 8.

The three employees left two students after dress selection for the Belle of the Ball at the John B. Hynes Veterans Convention Center in Boston on April 6. The trip was a school-sponsored field trip.

The two students were brought back to the Cape later that day by Belle of the Ball organizers.

Resurfaced interview with RFK Jr. could lead to government investigation

Did RFK Jr. cut off the head of a dead whale and take it home? An old interview in which his daughter claims this has resurfaced. An environmental group is calling on the authorities to investigate.

Kick Kennedy told Town and Country in 2012 that her father used a chainsaw to cut off the whale's head after hearing that the whale had washed ashore on Squaw Island in 1994. She said he tied it to the roof of the family minivan with a bungee cord to take it to Mount Kisco, New York, apparently for study.

In a letter to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, the Center for Biological Diversity Action Fund stated that it is illegal to possess body parts of animals – dead or alive – protected under the Marine Mammal Protection Act or the Endangered Species Act.

Big changes are coming to the Cape Cod Mall cinema

The Regal Cinemas at Cape Cod Mall will look very different in the near future.

Bill Hanney, owner of Entertainment Cinemas, Theatre By The Sea and North Shore Music Theatre, has announced plans to expand his empire with Bill Hanney's Entertainment Experience at the Cape Cod Mall in Hyannis.

Hanney said he has signed a 40-year lease with Simon Properties to take over the approximately 50,000 square feet that currently houses 12 Regal Cinemas.

He said the new complex will include a performing arts theater, five to six luxury cinemas, including an IMAX theater, for first-run and art-house films, clubs with padded banquet seating for comedy, cabaret and jazz and blues entertainment, a sports bar and a country music bar.

Have you ever thought about camping at the legendary Bourne Rotary Club? YouTuber Wes Wherever recently did just that as part of his ongoing series.

Wes Wherever posts videos about his outdoor adventures in unexpected places across the country. Over the past few months, Wes has documented a cross-country RV trip with his mom and their dog, starting in Pennsylvania and traveling up the East Coast, gaining 30,000 subscribers along the way.

In each state, Wes has uploaded videos of himself stealth camping (also known as free camping or boondocking) at various unconventional campgrounds, and the Bourne Rotary was one of his most recent locations.
