A 23-year-old man has been charged with murder after a person was stabbed to death in Mount Wellington on Saturday afternoon.

Shortly before 1.30pm, police were called to an address in Tomuri Place after receiving reports of a stabbing. A man, who was found with life-threatening injuries, died at the scene.

A 24-year-old woman was also charged with aiding and abetting murder. Both defendants will appear in Auckland District Court on Monday.

Police said they were not looking for anyone else in connection with the death.

Mount Wellington residents should expect an increased presence in the area while the investigation of the crime scene continues, police said.

An autopsy was scheduled to take place on Sunday morning.

Detective Inspector Simon Harrison said on Saturday that he knew it would be a shock to the public, but it appeared to be an isolated incident.

Further information about the deceased man has not yet been released.
