Police search Lowell area for suspect in stabbing

The Lake County Sheriff's Department is searching for the person or persons who stabbed a young girl in the hand in Lowell on Saturday.

Sheriff Oscar Martinez said the incident reportedly occurred at the baseball fields near the VFW hall at 17401 Morse Street.

A male perpetrator was chased into the forest near this location. The victim is about 14 years old.

The Lake County Sheriff's Department's canine and aerial units, detectives and patrol officers are working with police from several surrounding areas in the search, the sheriff said.

Police received a basic description of the suspect: He was a dark-skinned man with long hair who was last seen in a wooded area behind homes in the 6100 block of Oak Valley Drive in Lowell.

The person may have been with other unknown men and is considered armed and dangerous, the sheriff said.

Anyone who sees these individuals is asked to call 9-1-1 immediately.

Police are asking residents in the immediate area to keep their homes and vehicles locked and to report any suspicious activity to police.
