Irondequoit police said they found several people dead while fighting a fire in a home on Knapp Avenue.

At approximately 5:23 a.m., the Irondequoit, St. Paul and Point Pleasant fire departments and Irondequoit EMS arrived on the scene and brought the fire under control. Police said that while searching the area, they found several dead people inside and are now treating the incident as a homicide.

Police are still waiting for the medical examiner to determine the cause of death and have not released names or the number of people found in the home. Irondequoit police said they are working closely with the Monroe County District Attorney, Monroe County Fire Bureau arson investigators and New York State arson investigators on this incident.
