Tragic two-car crash leaves multiple victims dead in Evans County

Evans County, GA – August 31, 2024 – A devastating two-car crash Saturday afternoon resulted in the deaths of three people and three others requiring hospitalization, according to GSP. The crash occurred around 2:00 p.m. near the intersection of Highway 301 and Highway 169 and required an urgent response from local emergency services.

Evans County Emergency Medical Services immediately requested mutual aid for the serious accident involving six people. To expedite medical assistance, two rescue helicopters were called to the scene to transport the seriously injured victims to trauma centers.

Rescue personnel from Evans County EMS and Fire Department worked tirelessly to free several victims trapped in the rubble. Two of these individuals were airlifted to nearby trauma centers. Both were in critical condition. A third victim was transported by Bulloch County EMS to East Georgia Regional Medical Center in Statesboro, GA with serious injuries.

Evans County Coroner Mellie Nesmith was also dispatched to the scene to assist in the fatality investigation. The identities of the dead have not yet been released as authorities work to notify next of kin.

During the investigation, the Georgia State Patrol (GSP) has closed Highway 301 south of Interstate 16 at the intersection with Highway 169. Authorities have announced that the road will remain closed for the duration of the investigation. Evans County Sheriff Mac Edwards is asking motorists to avoid the area for the next few hours.
