Family members of deceased teenagers devastate city hospital

A private hospital was vandalised and hospital staff attacked and injured after a youth died while undergoing treatment. He was injured in an accident at Shanti Niketan in Govindpura area on Friday.

Massive protests erupted following the death of a youth named Rakesh (20). The accident occurred on Friday evening. After that, people immediately rushed the youth to the city hospital where the doctors declared him dead. The family and the people who had gathered with the family at the hospital turned violent. They alleged that there was a delay in treatment.

Vandalism took place in the hospital and the staff were beaten up. The angry crowd also threw stones. Meanwhile, the son of the hospital director opened fire in the air. The police have filed a complaint against the minor driver of the car. However, it is not a hit-and-run. A complaint has also been filed for vandalism in the hospital.

Later on Saturday, the family protested by dumping the body in front of the city hospital. After that, a memorandum was submitted. After the police's assurance, the family ended the protest and left for Narsinghgarh with the body. They demanded that the hospital be sealed.

During the protest, people shouted slogans and demanded action.

A dispute broke out between the high-ranking police officers who arrived at the scene and the demonstrators.

According to eyewitnesses, the car was traveling at such a high speed that it dragged the teenager about 10 meters. The injured man was immediately taken to the nearby city hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

Police said that after receiving the news of Rakesh's death in a road accident, his family and the crowd present there became agitated. The family accused the hospital director of collecting money before starting treatment. When the staff protested against this, the uncontrollable crowd started vandalizing the hospital.

As security led the crowd through the gate, people outside began throwing stones at the hospital.

To protect themselves from the vandalism and stone-throwing in the hospital, the hospital director and staff left their workplace and went to their house near the hospital. As soon as they received the information that the doctor was not in the hospital, the crowd started throwing stones at the hospital director's house on the first floor.

The angry mob entered the house of the director Dr. Sabyasachi Gupta and started breaking and throwing the items stored on the balcony. When the hospital director's son and his family members tried to stop the mob, they were also beaten up by the angry mob.

To protect himself and his family from the attack of the uncontrolled crowd that had entered the house, the son of the hospital director, Dr. Ujjwal Gupta, started firing with a pistol.

According to eyewitnesses, Dr. Ujjwal fired about six shots. The crowd then fled from the hospital director's house and outside the hospital. On receiving this information, the Govindpura police reached the scene and chased away the miscreants who were standing across the road.

Hospital director Dr. Ujjwal Gupta said that a tikli gun (toy gun) was fired to disperse the mob that had entered the house. The bullet was not fired from a gun. All this happened when the mob had already entered the house and was attacking me and my family members.

People said the hospital does not provide treatment in emergency cases. This has been the case before. People said the youth injured in the road accident died because he was not treated in time.

Hospital owner Dr Ojwal Gupta said that the district councillor Rakesh and the owner of Meena Medical Store, whose name he does not know, brought an accident victim in the evening. We told them that the young man had died.
