Kerala police have filed a second sexual assault case against film director Ranjith following a complaint from an aspiring actor.

The case was filed in Kozhikode and is the latest development following the publication of the latest report of the Hema Committee.

The investigation team recorded the complainant’s statement on Friday.

On Friday, an aspiring actor filed a complaint against Ranjith, alleging that the director forced him to strip naked and sexually assaulted him in 2012.

Ranjith had invited the victim for an audition at a hotel in Bangalore, where the alleged assault took place. The complainant initially thought it was part of the audition. The next morning, Ranjith offered the victim money. The actor has now filed a complaint with the DGP and the SIT will examine it.

The Kerala Police had earlier confirmed to ANI that they had received a complaint from the young actor against Kerala filmmaker Ranjith.

On Monday, Bengali actress Sreelekha Mitra filed a complaint against Ranjith with the Kochi city police, a day after he resigned from his post as chairman of the Chalachithra Academy in Kerala state.

Based on the actress’ complaint, legal action was taken against the director.

Earlier this month, a redacted version of the Justice Hema Committee's report on harassment of women in the Malayalam cinema industry was released. It contains shocking accounts of harassment, exploitation and mistreatment of women professionals.
