A mother who was stabbed to death in front of her three-year-old daughter at the Notting Hill Carnival has died.

Cher Maximen, 32, was reportedly enjoying a “family day” but stepped in to help when a fight broke out and was stabbed in the leg, reports say.

She was taken to hospital with life-changing injuries but sadly passed away today.

Following the horror on August 25, three brothers appeared before Westminster Magistrates' Court on Wednesday.

Shakiel Thibou, 20, who was charged with attempted murder, is said to have attempted to stab the intended victim while armed with a “Rambo knife,” it is said.

He is then accused of stabbing the mother, which caused her to go into cardiac arrest.

The justices of the peace learned that she had lost twenty pints of blood during the terrible attack and suffered a collapsed lung before being placed in an induced coma.

Thibou, who is also charged with violent disorder and possession of an offensive weapon, claims he was attacked.

His brothers Sheldon Thibou, 24, and Shaeim Thibou, 22, appeared next to him in the dock.

Both are accused of violent disorder and assaulting a paramedic. Sheldon also faces charges of possession of a stun gun.

The court was told that all three brothers were involved in the atrocity, but that only Shakiel Thibou committed the stabbing.

The public prosecutor assumes that they visited the fair with the intention of harming the intended victim.

The trio have been remanded in custody and will appear in court again at the Old Bailey on September 25.

Over 200 people were arrested over the carnival weekend for alleged crimes ranging from sexual offenses to theft and assault.

About 50 people were arrested for possession of an offensive weapon and one person for possession of a firearm.

Scotland Yard said 35 Metropolitan Police officers were injured while on duty during Carnival.

Detective Chief Inspector Alex Gammampila of the Metropolitan Police's Homicide Squad, who is leading the investigation, said: “My thoughts are with Cher's loved ones as they come to terms with this terrible loss.

“They are supported by specialist officials and we will ensure that this support continues.

“Cher was at the carnival with her young child. We have been in close contact with our local partners and Cher's family since shortly after this incident to ensure that the child is safe and cared for.”

Commander Charmain Brenyah, the Met's spokesperson for the Carnival, said: “The news of Cher's tragic death is devastating for her family, the wider community and everyone involved in running the Notting Hill Carnival.

“Carnival is about bringing people together for a positive celebration. The fact that it ended with the tragic loss of life and other serious acts of violence will be sad for everyone involved.”

DAC Ade Adelekan added: “We have witnessed the first day of Carnival being marred by unacceptable violence.

“This should be a ‘family day’ – a celebration for all ages.

“We are tired of saying the same words every year. We are tired of seeing crime scenes at carnival.”

“We are tired of having to tell families that their loved ones are seriously injured or worse has happened.

“Carnival is a community event and the vast majority of people come to celebrate, dance, enjoy music and have a fantastic experience.

“It is the responsibility of all those who care about this event and want to experience it as the celebration it should be to speak out and denounce the violence that continues to overshadow it.

“If you know anything that could help us, please call the police directly or contact Crimestoppers anonymously.”

DAC Adelekan added: “It is no exaggeration to say that this could save a life.”

The carnival is Europe's largest street festival and is touted by organizers as “the largest community-organized event on the planet.”

Around one million people took part in the holiday weekend and around 7,000 officers were on duty during the celebrations.

The annual celebration of Caribbean heritage, arts and culture has been taking place for more than 50 years.
