MLB odds, tips, bets for Saturday

The Yankees will give their most promising pitcher another chance after a disastrous start about a week ago.

Will Warren was hurled all over the field by the leaderless Rockies and scored five earned runs before being taken out of the game after three innings.

Saturday's home game against St. Louis will be Warren's fifth major league start.

As the rookie settles in, the Yankees continue to have better odds against the Cardinals club, which is trying to stay above .500.

Kyle Gibson has more major league experience with 1,819 innings, but 2024 was not a career season for the veteran.

The right-hander is also suffering from a sad loss when he allowed seven runs in a split series against the strong Padres.

Gibson, who was signed by the Cardinals in the offseason with high expectations, hasn't won a game since July 7. Since then, he's had a 0-3 record, a 5.86 ERA and occasional issues with game control.

Even though the Yankees are operating at a more functional level this year – at least in the abstract – Gibson challenged them with a 2.77 ERA in two long games in 2023.

Five of his seven wins have come on the road, and his splits show that he's become more comfortable pitching elsewhere since arriving in St. Louis last offseason: Gibson strikes out nearly three more hitters per nine innings on the road than at home.

Yes, St. Louis is simply superior to the Yankees in terms of hitting power and run production.

However, as underdogs on the road, they have covered the run line with a rate of over 44 percent.

Play it safe and look for Gibson, who is playing for his 2025 club option, and the Cardinals to make it exciting despite Warren's difficulty keeping balls out of play in the first innings.

The piece: Cardinals +1.5 (FanDuel, -137)
