Zimbabwe covers the costs of repatriating victims of a South African bus accident

Zimbabwe's Consul General to South Africa Eria Phiri says the Zimbabwe government will cover the cost of repatriating the bodies of those killed in a bus crash in Louis Trichardt, Limpopo on Tuesday night.

Phiri was speaking during a visit to the scene of the accident along with Deputy Transport Minister Mkhuleko Hlengwa.

The victims of the bus accident are five women and five men, all Zimbabwean citizens.

They travelled from Zimbabwe to Gauteng.

Phiri says they are busy identifying the bodies.

“We are still trying to establish the true identity of those who died in the accident. We have found ten and I believe we still have seven who are being admitted to various hospitals here in Makhado and 32 have been treated and discharged. We are currently in contact with the families back home in Zimbabwe to first establish the identity of those who are in the morgue. So far two have been positively identified by their relatives. The Government of Zimbabwe will facilitate the repatriation. All costs for the repatriation of the deceased will be borne by the Government of Zimbabwe.”
