Gardeners' World Sue Kent has 'huge scar' after off-camera accident | Celebrity News | Showbiz & TV

BBC presenter Sue Kent recently spoke about a “huge scar” she was left with after a gardening accident. The green-thumbed star took to her social media to reveal the consequences of improper treatment of an injury she sustained while pursuing her gardening hobby.

Citing tips from Dr Samantha Ellis, which she shared on Instagram, Sue stressed the importance of proper wound care. She said: “I often cut myself in the garden. I have a huge scar on my leg because I didn't do that. You never stop learning!”

Dr. Ellis was on hand to offer expert advice and described a conversation in a video posted by Sue: “I was just on the phone with my best friend and the conversation with her made me realize, as a dermatologist, that most people don't know how to treat cuts and scrapes.

“She just landed face down in her yard and scraped her elbows and knees. Then she called me and asked, 'What should I do?'”

Dr. Ellis also cleared up common misconceptions about wound treatment: “She said, 'I've cleaned it really well, should I just let it air out now?'

“We don't just let cuts and scrapes 'air out.' If you do that, you're actually delaying wound healing and your scar can get much worse.”

Going into more detail about proper first aid procedures, Dr. Ellis continued, “If you want your cut or abrasion to heal with the smallest, most inconspicuous scar ever, you will do these things.

“You will wash it thoroughly with soap and water, then you will pat it dry and apply a thin layer of a non-medicated ointment such as Vaseline or Aquaphor.”

“Then you put a bandage on it and keep it covered. And every 24 hours you repeat this process. […] You'll do this until you have a nice layer of pink skin there. This process can feel annoying, you may feel like it's slowing down the healing process because you're not getting that satisfying, crusty, thick scab. But I promise you, it will make the scar much better overall.”
