Waterford man accused of sexually abusing several boys he knew

Logan Joseph Sutherland, 21, of Waterford. (Waterford Township Police Department)

A complaint of sexual abuse by a 21-year-old man led to his arrest and the confiscation of his mobile phone, on which police found photos and videos of naked young boys.

According to a press release from the Waterford Township Police Department, Logan Joseph Sutherland was arrested at his Waterford home on Tuesday, August 27.

According to the police press release, investigators showed up at Sutherland's home to investigate a sex offense “involving a 10-year-old male victim.” “Sutherland had spent time alone with the boy up to 30-40 times from 2021 to 2023.”

Sexual content depicting several young boys was found on Sutherland's seized phone, but police said they currently only know of four victims – aged 7, 10, 11 and 13.

Three of the identified victims came forward after the suspect was taken into custody, according to police. The boys were attacked at several locations in Waterford Township – including Sutherland's home, the Zap Zone and Sportway – as well as a Sky Zone in Commerce Township.

“All four victims in this case knew Sutherland,” police said. “He befriended parents of young boys, gained their trust and exploited their trust to spend time alone and sexually abuse the children.”

Sutherland is currently facing six charges, including:

  • Four counts of second-degree sexual abuse, each a felony punishable by 15 years in prison
  • Two counts of aggravated possession of child sexual abuse material

The 21-year-old suspect was arraigned in 51st District Court and held on $100,000 cash or surety bail.

While Waterford Township police work to identify additional victims in the photos and videos, anyone whose children knew Sutherland and may have been around him is asked to call 248-618-6122.
