A motorcyclist whose body was found on Oxnard Plain Thursday morning died in a crash hours earlier, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The body of the driver, a 24-year-old Camarillo man, was found just before 7 a.m. in a drainage ditch on Las Posas Road north of the Revolon Slough, CHP Officer Ryan Ayala said. He was found next to a yellow 2007 Suzuki.

The site is located on a section of Las Posas that runs through agricultural fields east of the Oxnard city limits. The section connects the Pacific Coast Highway near Naval Base Ventura County Point Mugu to Hueneme Road.

Federal firefighters found the rider dead when they arrived, Ayala said.

CHP investigators determined the driver crashed between 1 and 5 a.m. Thursday while traveling southbound on Las Posas. He failed to negotiate a wide right turn and veered off the east shoulder of the road at an unknown speed. He struck two marker signs before crashing into the drainage ditch, officials said in a news release. No other vehicles appeared to be involved in the crash.

The driver's name was not released pending notification of the family.

Ayala said the people who reported the incident to the dispatcher searched for the man throughout the night.

No witnesses are known. Anyone with information is asked to contact Ayala at the CHP office in Ventura at 805-662-2640.
