The trailer for Netflix's Hot Rabbi Show with Kristen Bell and Adam Brody is here – Kveller

About Stefania Rosini/Netflix

It's hard to believe that September is almost here, bringing with it a new school year, fall leaves, and A NEW NETFLIX SHOW ABOUT A HOT RABBI, OMG!!!

The trailer for Netflix's Nobody Wants This, a romantic comedy starring Adam Brody as a hot rabbi (no, really, that's what he's called in the trailer) named Noah and Kristen Bell as a very nice and not-at-all-Jewish woman named Joanne who falls in love with him, just dropped, and my previously grumpy self is now officially looking forward to fall.

In the trailer, we get a glimpse of how the two met. Joanne, who at least according to her sister and co-podcaster has had a series of bad relationships, meets Noah at a party. She doesn't initially know that he is a rabbi and tells him that there is a rabbi at the party. She says: “He has a beard and he definitely judged me.”

“Sounds like a rabbi,” Noah admits embarrassedly.

When he asks his girlfriend about Joanne, who is sitting not far from her at the table, she tells him, “She doesn't have a single Jewish bone in her body… unless you stick one in her” (ooh la la!), and when Joanne realizes that Noah is the rabbi, he responds with a “That's hot, isn't it?” (RIGHT!)

Brody and Bell have undeniable chemistry in this fun and slightly raunchy trailer (as raunchy as Netflix trailers for shows that aren't “Love Island” get). We see them flirt, smooch and cuddle, have steamy conversations over ice cream, and visit a local sex shop, where Noah obviously dons a priest costume and even more obviously meets some of his congregants. We also see Joanne visit Noah's synagogue, where she accidentally crosses herself (“That's not our thing,” Noah awkwardly tells her) and meets Noah's Jewish mother, played by legendary actress Tovah Feldshuh, who unfortunately doesn't sing a musical number in this trailer. Noah's mother doesn't seem very into Joanne (“You'll never be my son,” she whispers to Joanne as they hug) and I'm a little concerned about this stereotypical portrayal of Jewish mothers, even though I'm always glad to have more Tovah Feldshuh in my life. I'm also increasingly excited to have more Jackie Tohn in my life—the GLOW actress plays a character named Esther, Noah's sister-in-law, who Joanne very charmingly calls either “Whore No. 1” or “Whore No. 2” in the trailer.

Like Joanne, I think we can all agree that Brody is a total crush as Noah, whether he's wearing a tallis (yum) while playing basketball or a t-shirt that says “Matzeballer” (I'm kind of craving some “Nobody Wants That” merch right now). One thing is for sure: This show breaks every stereotype when it comes to wimpy Jewish men. Noah seems like a nice Jewish boy who is both sexy and nice. As series creator Erin Foster told Tudum, “You don't have to be with the bad boy who makes you feel like shit but really gets you going, or the good guy who is really boring. You can find both.”

The show was created by Foster, a podcaster and actress, and is based on her own beautiful romance with husband Simon Tichman. According to Foster, it is about “the only good decision I ever made: falling in love with a nice Jewish boy.”

“But I realized that being happy is a lot harder than being unhappy (there's nothing to complain about). So I created this show based on all the reasons why finding the right person can be so difficult. Nobody wants that, but we do, and that's all that matters.”

After watching this trailer, you definitely get the feeling that the show's cast is absolutely perfect – Kristen and Adam bring the same energy that Foster and Tichman have when they appear on the Forster sisters' podcast, The World's First Podcast. Foster has shared how honored she felt when Brody, known to a generation as Seth Cohen from The OC and most recently to fans of the excellent Fleishman Is in Trouble as Toby's best friend Seth, agreed to play Rabbi Noah.

“He was so careful about what he did. The fact that he felt like this was his comeback as a leading man on television was a great honor for me,” she said.

Nobody Wants This premieres on September 26, just a week before Rosh Hashanah, which means you can start your holiday preparations while watching this (hopefully) very sweet new show. We don't know if Joanne and Noah, like Simon and Erin, who recently welcomed their first daughter and gave her the beautiful Hebrew name Noa (one of the most popular names in Israel this past year, fun fact!), will get their happy ending, but looking at this trailer full of romantic sparks, I'm definitely keeping my fingers crossed (but maybe they can wait a little longer so we get a second season).
