The house where the evil Alan Hawe slaughtered his family is to be razed to the ground – and the place is to be turned into a memorial to the monster's victims.

The depraved deputy headmaster Hawe slaughtered his children Liam (14), Niall (11), Ryan (6) and their mother Clodagh (39) and then killed himself.

The 41-year-old mad father beat them to death with knives, an axe and his bare hands in the family's Co Cavan home before taking his own life on August 29, 2016.

On the eighth anniversary of the murder and suicide that horrified the nation, it was announced that the infamous house where Hawe killed his wife Clodagh and their three young sons is to be demolished.

Clodagh's mother, Mary Coll, confirmed that she had recently submitted an application to the local council to demolish the property, which is located in the parish of Barconey, near Ballyjamesduff in south County Cavan.

Commenting on the plans to raze her daughter Clodagh's former home, Mary said: “It cannot remain as it is forever, what it reminds people of. For all that it has taken from this world.”

After the infamous apartment is demolished, the family hopes that a landscaped garden and a memorial to Clodagh and her three sons could be created on the site.

Mary said, “It has to be something that is easy to maintain. We don't want anyone to build a house on it ever again.”

Clodagh's sister Jacqueline promised to be there when the house was destroyed.

She said: “I want it to be torn down.

“It’s bittersweet because we have so many wonderful memories of our time in this house – Christmas, birthdays, baptisms, communions.”

Meanwhile, calls are growing for Justice Minister Helen McEntee and Garda Commissioner Drew Harris to publish a report on the murder investigation.

Clodagh's family is also calling for the inquest, which took place in December 2017, to be reopened to consider new information that has come to light since then.

The investigation into the massacre in 2017 revealed that Hawe, who was respected locally, was “stressed” because he might lose his position as a “pillar of the community”.

The investigation did not address why Hawe committed the murder.

But the Irish Sun has exclusively revealed the reason why the deputy headmaster had feared “a fall from grace” before the horror murder-suicide.

Following the inquest into the deaths, Clodagh's heartbroken relatives expressed their deep disappointment that the inquest did not address the reasons why Hawe wiped out his family.

The Irish Sun also reported that Hawe used “bloodthirsty” means to plan his killing spree – and even transferred thousands of euros from the family fortune into his own account after his series of murders.
