Shooting of two people in Chatham County classified as murder-suicide

CHATHAM COUNTY, Ga. (WTOC) – Last month, Chatham County Police officers responded to a residence in the 10 block of Rigger Court on the morning of Thursday, July 25.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found an adult man and an adult woman dead in the apartment.

According to Chatham County Police, the deceased man and woman appeared to have suffered gunshot wounds.

Chatham County Police classified the couple's deaths as a murder-suicide.

Investigators said they do not believe anyone else was involved in the crime and do not anticipate any charges being filed in the case.

Warning signs of suicide

▪ Talking about the desire to die

▪ Looking for a way to kill yourself

▪ Talking about hopelessness or aimlessness

▪ Talk about feeling trapped or in unbearable pain

▪ Talk about being a burden to others

▪ Increased consumption of alcohol or drugs

▪ Anxious, agitated or reckless behavior

▪ Too little or too much sleep

▪ Withdrawing or feeling isolated

▪ Show anger or talk of revenge

▪ Extreme mood swings

What to do

▪ Do not leave the person alone

▪ Remove any firearms, alcohol, drugs or sharp objects that could be used in a suicide attempt

▪ Call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-TALK (8255).

▪ Take the person to the emergency room or seek help from a doctor or psychologist.
