The tragic death of a teenager from Portal shocks the local community

A tragic accident in Portal, Georgia has claimed the life of a 16-year-old boy and left the community in mourning. The teenager was struck by a car on Wednesday evening. The incident sparked an outpouring of grief in the community of Portal.

On Wednesday evening, August 28, 2024, a tragic incident occurred in Portal, GA when a 16-year-old boy was struck by a car while walking near Portal Middle/High School. The accident occurred at approximately 9:40 p.m. at the intersection of Highway 80 and North Grady Street.

According to the Georgia State Patrol (GSP), the teen was walking eastbound when he was struck by a sedan traveling in the same direction. Emergency responders, including Bulloch County EMS, Bulloch County Fire and local police, rushed to the scene following a 911 call.

Bulloch County EMS paramedics worked quickly to stabilize the injured teen and transport him to East Georgia Regional Medical Center (EGRMC) in critical condition. Due to the severity of his injuries, he was later transferred to Memorial Medical Center in Savannah for further medical care.

Despite the efforts of medical personnel, Bulloch County Coroner Richard Pylant confirmed that the young man succumbed to his injuries at 12:45 a.m. Thursday.
