Wells Fargo employee found dead in Arizona office days after starting work

A woman working for Wells Fargo in Arizona died at work and was found four days later, authorities confirmed.

Denise Prudhomme, 60, last checked into Wells Fargo in Tempe at 7 a.m. on Aug. 16, Tempe police confirmed to USA TODAY on Thursday. She was found at a desk on the third floor of the office on Aug. 20, and on-site security called police.

Firefighters also responded and declared the woman dead at 4:55 p.m., police said.

According to the Office of Medical Examiner, Prudhomme's cause and manner of death were not known Thursday morning.

According to police, initial investigations did not reveal any obvious signs of foul play. The investigation is ongoing and authorities are interviewing employees at the Wells Fargo branch for more information.

Wells Fargo employees smelled the odor of a bad order but suspected a problem with the water pipes, local television station KPNX reported, citing an unnamed employee.

The outlet reported that Prudhomme's cubicle was on the third floor and not near the main hallway. Most Wells Fargo employees in the office work from home, but the building has 24/7 security, according to KPNX.

In a statement to KPNX, Wells Fargo said the company was saddened by Prudhomme's death.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with her family and loved ones during this difficult time,” the company said. “Advisors from our Employee Assistance Consulting service are assisting our employees. We are cooperating fully with the Tempe Police Department in their investigation and will refer any further questions to them.”

USA TODAY has asked Wells Fargo for more information.
